The Problem
A young couple who had just received the keys to their new unit at Eko Cheras Residence along Jalan Cheras contacted Masters Aircond Service KL for a complete aircond installation. The 950-sqft unit came with pre-installed piping points for 3 rooms — master bedroom, second bedroom, and living area — but no aircond units were included by the developer.
The couple had already purchased 3 Daikin FTKF series inverter units: a 2.0HP FTKF50A for the living room and two 1.5HP FTKF35B units for the bedrooms. They needed professional installation with proper copper piping, outdoor unit bracket mounting on the condo's designated ledge, and full vacuum and gas charging.
Our Assessment
We visited the unit for a pre-installation site survey — a step we always take for condo installations in Cheras. The key findings were:
- Piping points were pre-hacked by the developer, so no additional wall hacking was needed — saving the client roughly RM300
- Outdoor ledge had space for all 3 condensers side by side, though the spacing was tight at 70cm intervals
- Piping distance ranged from 10ft (bedrooms) to 18ft (living room), all within standard limits
- Electrical wiring was already in place with dedicated 13A sockets for each indoor unit and a 20A breaker for the outdoor units
Everything was straightforward. We scheduled the installation for the following Monday, a full-day job with two technicians.
Work Timeline
Step 1: Outdoor Bracket Mounting
Installed heavy-duty stainless steel brackets on the outdoor ledge for all 3 condenser units. Ensured proper spacing for ventilation and maintenance access.
Step 2: Indoor Unit Back-Plate & Piping
Mounted back-plates for all 3 indoor units. Ran insulated copper piping (¼" + ½" for 1.5HP, ¼" + ⅝" for 2.0HP) through the pre-hacked wall points with proper flaring.
Step 3: Drainage Line Setup
Connected PVC drainage lines from each indoor unit to the designated drain points. Ensured proper gradient for gravity drainage — no pump required.
Step 4: Vacuum & Pressure Test
Performed nitrogen pressure test at 400 PSI on each line to check for leaks. Then vacuumed each system for 30 minutes to remove moisture and air — critical for inverter compressor longevity.
Step 5: Gas Release & Commissioning
Released factory-charged R32 refrigerant into each system. Powered on all units and verified cooling performance, airflow direction, and remote control pairing.
Step 6: Trunking & Clean-Up
Installed PVC trunking to conceal exposed piping along walls for a clean aesthetic finish. Cleaned up all work areas and briefed the homeowners on maintenance basics.

Lessons & Advice
Condo installations in Cheras are generally straightforward if the developer has provided proper piping points and outdoor ledge space. The biggest cost variable is piping length — anything beyond 15ft per unit starts adding RM15–20 per additional foot for copper piping and insulation.
We always recommend Daikin's FTKF inverter series for new condos. The R32 refrigerant is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than older R410A systems, and the inverter compressor adjusts speed to maintain temperature rather than cycling on and off — resulting in 30–40% lower electricity consumption.
If you're planning a new installation, book a site survey first. It's free and helps us give you an accurate quote. And never skip the vacuum step — any installer who doesn't vacuum for at least 20 minutes is cutting corners that will cost you in compressor repairs later. For ongoing care, consider scheduling regular aircond servicing every 3 months.
